As of October 4th, 2009 1,381 coalition members have been killed in Afghanistan. Mark Vargas, former Defense Department official and candidate in the 14th Congressional district asks President Obama not make life and death decisions for political gain and to listen to the commanders on the ground.

President Obama’s poll numbers are slipping as 2009 is the deadliest year of the Afghanistan mission. As the President delays making a decision, terrorists and insurgents are planning their next attack on us.

Mark Vargas has worked for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon and also on the ground in Iraq, Middle East, and Africa. Violence has been reduced drastically in Iraq. Iraqi’s have begun building infrastructure, businesses, and educating their children again. General McChrystal has similar and attainable goals for Afghanistan. Currently politics is getting the way of initiating these plans and is putting soldiers at risk. Mark Vargas, like all Americans wants to see a quick end to hostilities and for our soldiers to return home.

Mark Vargas urges everyone to remember the brave men and women serving their country and to mourn the ones we have already lost on this anniversary. He also urges voters to take a moment this afternoon and let President Obama and Congressman Foster know where you stand. Call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111, Congressman Foster at 202-225-0697 and share your thoughts on this issue.

Eight U.S. Congress members from IL voted against the Cap & Trade legislation Friday evening. The controversial legislation, which passed 219-212 votes, was originally written by Representative Waxman (D) to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions in the United States. Political pressure from alternative energy and environmental lobbies shaped the legislation to tax heavy industry and residential consumers. Illinois residents, blue collar workers, and heavy industries like Caterpillar could feel the hurt if this bill passes the Senate in the fall.

Representatives Bill Foster (D), John Shimkus (R), Aaron Schrock (R), Peter Roskam (R), Donald Manzullo (R), Timothy Johnson (R), Jerry Costello (R), and Judy Biggert (R) stood up against the powerful alternative energy and environmental lobbies who stand to greatly benefit form more corporate welfare.

The debate over climate change is roaring, but the U.S. House of Representative is moving fast to limit domestic manufacturing and energy producers. We need real debate, not 3 A.M. secret ammendments and more un-read 1200 page resolutions. Please thank these eight standouts for caring more about Illinois jobs than rectoric.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee petitioned a federal judge Thursday to move a lawsuit filed by Oberweis Dairy out of Kane County and into the federal court system.

According to documents filed in federal court, Oberweis Dairy filed the suit against the DCCC on March 6 in Kane County, claiming the committee painted North Aurora dairy owner Jim Oberweis in a false light during his run for the Fox Valley’s 14th Congressional District seat.

Oberweis lost the March special election for the 14th District seat to Democrat Bill Foster of Geneva. The two will face off again in the November general election.

The suit claims the DCCC ran ads saying illegal immigrants were working at Oberweis’ dairy retail stores. Oberweis claims no illegal immigrants worked there.

Because the DCCC is based in Washington, D.C., the committee is asking the federal court in Chicago to move the suit out of Kane County and into the federal system. (read full)
